Dreams of Dominion 12/1/2007
DREAMS OF DOMINION

Genesis 37:5-8, “And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brothers: and they hated him yet the more. And he said to them, Listen to this dream that I have dreamed, We were binding sheaves in the field, and my sheaf arose and stood upright; and behold your sheaves stood around mine and bowed down to it. And his brothers said to him, Will you indeed reign over us? Will you have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams and his words.”

Don’t ever stop dreaming! Your dreams will come to pass. They will probably take longer then you expect and require a lot more work then you ever imagined, but they will come to pass. Don’t stay depressed when the dream appears to be taking a long time to manifest.

In my own life and ministry, there are dreams that I have been incubating for fifteen years. I have not seen them in their fullness yet, but that does not mean that they are not going to come to pass. I just need to stay focused on the Lord and focused on His dream for my life. I need to keep moving in that direction day in and day out, year in and year out. I need to enjoy the journey along the way. When you have a set back, don’t take a step back, instead get ready for a come back!

My pastor, Richard Myers, is a great example of someone who has stayed focused on the dream of God for his life and ministry. I have watched his life for the last seventeen years. He is a man of integrity and excellence. He has been faithful to pastor the people of New Life World Outreach in Millville, New Jersey, and the church has grown to over five hundred people.

It all starts with a dream! God placed a dream in my heart four years ago to start a side business teaching music. It has grown to the place where I am now hiring people to teach for me because I can’t handle all of the clients on my own.

Genesis 37:9, “And he dreamed another dream, and he told it to his brothers, and said, I have dreamed another dream this time the sun the moon and even the stars bowed down to me.” It is easy to read this scripture and say, “Ok Joseph, you have gone too far. You have lost your mind.” I am sure that is what his family was thinking. In today’s world they might have said, “This kid must be smoking something out in the field to be talking like this. He is crazy.”

Genesis 37:18 says, “And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near to them, they conspired against him to slay him. And they said to each other, Behold the dreamer is coming. Let us kill him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, some evil beast has devoured him: and we will see what will become of his dreams.”
I Peter 5:8, “Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a roaring lion [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.”

Realize that the enemy is after your dreams. He hates you because of your dreams and your words. Your dreams have the power to help people who are controlled by sin, sickness, demons and fear. Your dreams have the power to lift them out of the muck and the mire and set them on the rock, Jesus Christ! Your dreams give you dominion in the earth. They give you a snapshot into the world that is not seen with the natural eye. Joseph's brothers threw him into a pit and they ended up selling him to a company of Ishmaelites who were on their way to Egypt. Genesis 39:1, “And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him off the hands of the Ishmaelites, which had brought him down there. And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand. And it came to pass from the time that he made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the Lord was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.”

Joseph held tight to his dream even when he was thrown into the pit, sold off into slavery and ended up in Egypt. He stayed true to the Lord and to himself, and he did not lose sight of his dream. Once someone has heard from heaven and seen God’s dream for their life, you cannot suppress them, at least not for long. They will rise above whatever comes their way: the pit, slavery, or even prison.

Don’t lose sight of your dream. Don’t give up. Don’t quit. Don’t give in. Instead, stand strong and see the salvation of your God! Genesis 1:26-28, “God said, Let us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the [tame] beasts, and over all the earth, and over everything that creeps upon the earth. So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God created he him: male and female He created them. And God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it [using all it’s vast resources in the service of God and man] and have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves upon the earth.”

You have been created in the God class; therefore, act, think, and talk like it. Exercise your authority. As Joseph stayed focused on the Lord and the dream God had given him, he ended up becoming Prime Minister over all Egypt. Maybe you have lost your focus, you feel like your dream is dead and your life does not matter.

As long as you have breath in you, you can start fresh today and start having dreams of dominion again. See yourself living the life that the Father has always intended for you to live: a life of abundance, peace, joy, and good health. Take it by force and don’t settle for second best.

Pray this prayer, “Father, I come to You and I present my dream to You. You have called me and I hear Your voice. I will obey You at all costs. I turn my back on any sin or compromise in my life and I receive Your forgiveness. I declare my dreams are becoming a reality, in Jesus name!”
