On the mountain
On the Mountain
By Wayne McDonald

Matthew 17:1-5 Jesus decides to take Peter, James and John up on the mountain with Him. Once they got up there He began to manifest His glory and Moses and Elijah appeared to them.

Vs 2,"And His appearance underwent a change in their presence; and His face shone clear and bright like the sun, and His clothing became white like the light."

Jesus intention was to take Peter, James, and John to a new level of intimacy with Him and speak things to them that they had never understood.

In Vs 4 Peter told Jesus that he wanted to  set up a memorial on the mountain. He wanted to set up one for Moses and one for Elijah. That was not what Jesus intended. Peter did not understand why they were there. He missed the purpose that Jesus had for Him up on the mountain.

In Vs 5 God the Father spoke out of the cloud and said, "This is my beloved Son, listen to Him." The bottom line is Peter got distracted. All of us can relate. Instead of listening to the Lord and finding out what he has for us, we often get into His presence and tell him what our plans are. We get distracted! Think about it. What things in your life are distracting you from you personal relationship with Jesus today?

Jesus is calling today. He is saying, "Come up on the mountain with me and lets be intimate. I want to speak things to your heart and reveal My glory to you."  Set some time aside to be alone with Him on the mountain. In addition, when you take that time make sure you listen to Him!
