You Have Authority

You Have Authority
Matthew 7:28
By Wayne McDonald

Matthew 7:28-29, “And it came to pass, when He had ended these sayings, the people were amazed at His teaching: For He taught them as one having authority, and not as the teachers of the law.” God's dominion is in you-you were born with it.

Think about when a baby is born and it is brought home from the hospital. That baby will dominate the entire household with its cry. When it needs to be changed it cries, when it needs to be fed it cries. Isaiah 58:1 says, “Cry aloud, spare not, lift up your voice like a trumpet.” Some of us have lost our cry of dominion. It's time to cry loud!

Genesis 1:26, “God said let us make man in our image and give him dominion over the earth.” You have been created to have dominion. Matthew 16:13-19, “When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, whom do men say that I the son of man am? And they said, some say that you are John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

He said unto them, but who do you say that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, you are the Christ, the son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, blessed are you Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood did not reveal this unto you, but my father which is in heaven.

And I say also unto you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto you the keys (or the authority) of the kingdom of heaven: and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven: and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” You and I have been given the keys of the kingdom.

We have authority over all the power of the enemy and nothing will harm us. Jesus assured us that the gates of hell will not prevail against us. Let me ask you a question. Have you ever been attacked by a gate? Of course not. A gate does not attack us; however, a gate is designed to restrict our movement.

I can’t think of a better trait of the enemy then that of restriction. The devil and our flesh try to restrict us from moving forward in God, but I have good news for you, the gates of hell shall not prevail. If you have gotten off course in God and fallen into sin, right now as you are reading this teaching confess that sin to God and get rid of it and move on. You can’t afford to stay there and wallow in guilt and self pity. There are people just waiting to experience the greatness of God's kingdom that is in you.

One of Jesus’ disciples caught hold of what Jesus was preaching and declared, “Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4).” John heard Jesus talk about the kingdom again and again until he became so kingdom minded he could not be stopped! Church history tells us that John was banished to a Island called Patmos, and there he was placed in a big ditch and given a sledge hammer that he was to break rocks with.

The enemy tried to kill John before he was sent to Patmos. They boiled him in oil but he wouldn’t die. So they took him (he was in his eighties) and tried to give him a heart attack by overworking him on the island. But he still went on to fulfill God’s destiny for His life. He wrote the book of Revelation during that time.

Nothing or no one (not even the devil) can stop a man or woman who is kingdom minded. Right in the middle of what appeared to be John’s darkest hour God showed up and John captured the revelation of Jesus Christ. That revelation was added to the Bible so all of us could get a glimpse of what God was saying. Revelation 1:6 says, “And He has made us kings and priests unto our God and His Father; to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”

You need to realize you are a king and you have been born again into a kingdom that can never be shaken or moved. No matter what you are going through right now know this, you are going to make it. Don't give up! Don't quit! Don’t get offended and don't allow the guilt and shame of the past to dominate you. Get up and move forward! God has great plans for your life. Believe it, receive it, and walk in it. You have been called into God's kingdom for such a time as this!

You Have Authority!
