The Kingdom Of God

The Kingdom Of God
Matthew 4:17
By Wayne McDonald

The topic of the kingdom of God is very dear to my heart because it was the center of all of the teachings of Jesus. In the book of Matthew the kingdom is mentioned fifty-five different times. It was Jesus’ life message. What was He talking about when he spoke of the kingdom?

What was He trying to convey to us? The kingdom of God (or the kingdom of heaven as it is also translated) is simply God's rule, God's reign, God's way of doing things, His Dominion. The reason Jesus preached so much on the topic of the kingdom is because He wanted us to become kingdom minded. He wanted us to realize that we don’t have to wait until we get to heaven to walk in peace and victory.

We can exercise God’s authority and dominion in our everyday lives and experience complete victory now! Matthew 4:17 says, “From that time Jesus began to preach, and say, repent: for the kingdom of heaven is near.” The word repent means to change your mind. Start seeing yourself as one who walks in dominion and authority. Philippians 2:5-6, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God.”

You have been created to have dominion so walk in it! Hebrews 2:7-8, “You have made mankind a little lower than yourself God, you have crowned Him with glory and honor, and did set Him over all the works of your hands: You put all things under his feet.”

If you have accepted Jesus as your savior all things are under your feet: demons, sickness, and fear are under your feet. Defeat, depression and discouragement are under your feet. Don’t allow those things to have a place in your life that they should not have. Repent-change your mind because the kingdom of heaven is near. Jesus said in Luke 17:21 that the kingdom of God is within you. God's rule, God's dominion is in you.
