What Faith Is

What Faith Is
Hebrews 11:1
By Laura McDonald

It is easy to say, “I believe God.” It is easy to say, “I have faith.” But what is faith really? Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) says, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Faith is not a feeling it is a spiritual force. When that force is in operation it produces a surety; a certainty on the inside of us. We know that what God promised He is going to fulfill.

A lot of people pray to God for more faith, but that is not accurate. Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” If you need more faith all you have to do is spend more time in God’s word. Mediate on the scriptures. Read them over and over again, and as you do they will begin to get into your heart. When that begins to happen, faith will erupt on the inside of you. You won’t have to conjure it up or pretend. It will come out of your spirit. It will give you a boldness that won’t allow you to back down in spite of your circumstances.

If you are facing a difficult circumstance today, don’t let it speak to you one more minute. Dig into the word of God and find promises that fit your situation. Then begin to meditate on them. As you do faith will grow on the inside of you. That faith will empower you to believe for things you could not do on your own. God’s word is waiting for you, so feast upon it today and watch it work on your behalf!
