Right Word Wrong Spirit
Right Word Wrong Spirit

Luke 9:54-5,  “And when His disciples James and John observed this, they said, ‘Lord, do you wish us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, even as Elijah did?’ But He turned and rebuked and severely censured them. He said, you do not know of what sort of spirit you are.”

Some people were not receiving what Jesus had to say and His disciples got all mad at them. They wanted to call down fire from heaven to burn them up. Jesus’ response lets us know the disciples were speaking out of a wrong spirit. We have to be on guard as ministers of the gospel to preach and teach with the right spirit.

You can have the right word but the wrong spirit. You can preach truth but if it is not done in love it’s wrong. We have to be on guard to what we allow into our lives. Ministering to people is a big responsibility. If you pollute the purity you paralyze the power.

It may be true that no one is perfect, but that can’t be an excuse to live any way that we want. I think very highly of teaching and preaching. Preaching and teaching under the anointing brings real change to people. Paul the Apostle had some people in his day who were preaching with the wrong spirit.

Philippians 1:15, “Some, it is true, [actually] preach Christ (the Messiah) [for no better reason than] out of envy and rivalry (party spirit), but others are doing so out of a loyal spirit and good will.” It is possible to preach the right word and have the wrong spirit.

So be on guard to what you allow into your heart for out of it flows the issues of life. Make a decision today that you are not going to just speak what is right, but you are going to do it out of a right heart.
