Should Christians Drink Alcohol?
Should Christians Drink Alcohol?

Proverbs 31:4-6 “It is not for Kings, O Lemuel, it is not for Kings to drink wine, or for rulers to desire strong drink. Lest they drink and forget the law and what it decrees, and pervert the justice due any of the afflicted. Give strong drink [as medicine] to him who is ready to pass away, and wine to him in bitter distress of heart”.

First of all Christianity is not a bunch of regulations and rules. Don’t do this and don’t do that. God is not trying to take things away from you. His nature is to give, the only things he is trying to take from us is the things that hurt us.

Before I gave my life to the Lord I use to drink all the time. After I met Jesus I was set free from a bad alcoholic addiction. Alcohol made my mind foggy and unclear. I have been asked over the years is it ok for Christians to drink? My answer has always been.

I am living for the Lord with my whole heart and I have enough to deal with, with a clear mind. So I don’t want to put any thing in my body that would cause me to think unclear. God’s word says give no place to the devil. I am not about to open any doors to him.

Alcohol opens the door to the enemy. I have never seen any thing good come from drinking. You have to make the decision for yourself. One of the scriptures that grabbed me concerning drinking was the one above. It says it’s not for kings to drink. God’s word says we are kings unto our God.

I want to live the life of a King and not be a slave to any thing. What about a casual drink when I sit down to eat? I have family members that are Italian and in their culture it is common to sit down with a glass of wine with dinner. Having a glass of wine at dinner is not going to send any one to hell.

But as a representative of Christ people are watching to see what we really have. Drinking could be a stumbling block to someone that is watching our life. Only you know the real reason if you drink why you do it. I have never looked down on any one that drinks or thought I am better because I don’t drink. I have just always thought if you get some of the new wine of the Spirit you will never want the world’s wine again. Gods presence is very intoxicating.
