Background: Story of the book of Ruth. Elimelech and Naomi were part of the Children of Israel and were from Bethlem Judah. They took their two sons and moved to the pagan country of Moab. In Moab Elimelech died the two sons married and the two sons died. Naomi was left with her two daughters-n-law; Orpah and Ruth.

Naomi decided to go back to her home country (she had heard that God was visiting His people with bread). Orpah and Ruth started out with Naomi but she told them to go back to their families. After a little persuasion orpah went back but Ruth stayed.

Ruth’s reply to her mother-n-law was Ruth1:16-17” And Ruth said, urge me not to leave you or to turn back from following you; for where you go I will go and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts me from you”.

Both of them make it back to Bethlehem Judah they both are widowed and poor. Ruth goes out to glean in the field she ends up in a field owned by a man named Boaz. Boaz asks one of his servants who she is and they tell him that she is the daughter-n-law who came back with Naomi. Boaz had heard all that Ruth had done for her mother-n-law and as a result she found favor in his sight.

Boaz told her to only glean in his field. He promised her protection. He provided extra grain for her to glean and even gave her food and water. When Ruth came home that night she told Naomi all that had happened with Boaz. Naomi was in awe and tells Ruth that Boaz is a relative-a near Kinsman.
