I Peter 3:3 - 4 (New King James Version) (3) “ Do not let your adornment be merely outward – arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel  (4) Rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gently and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.” 1 Peter 3:4 (Living Translation) “Be beautiful inside, in your hearts, with the lasting charm of a gentle and quiet spirit that is so precious to God.”

What is a beautiful heart? I tried to think of people I knew who had a beautiful heart and I tried to describe what it was I saw in them (they were kind, sweet, they had a light about them… all seemed shallow… what does it really mean to have a beautiful heart?

A beautiful heart (definition): A heart that belongs to God A heart fully surrendered to Him A heart after God. I love the story of David in I Samuel Chapter 16 King Saul had been disobedient to God and God decided to replace him as king… He sent the prophet Samuel to the house of Jesse and told him that He would show him which one of Jesse’s sons He wanted him to anoint as king.

When he got there the first son passed by him and he thought, “surely this is the one!” but God said NO! Then another son passed by, and then another, then another… until 7 sons had been brought before him and God did not choose any of them. Then in comes David, the youngest… he was probably the one that Samuel least expected God to choose

(we know that no one else expected him to be chosen because he was out tending to the sheep… they had not even called him). As soon as David walked in God spoke to Samuel and said, “Anoint him; for this is the one!” I Samuel 16:7 says, “…For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
