New Wine
New Wine
By Wayne McDonald

Luke 5:37-38 “And no one pours new wine into old wine skins; if he does, the fresh wine will burst the skins and it will be spilled and the skins will be ruined (destroyed). But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins”.

In this chapter the religious leaders were really giving Jesus a hard time. They were telling Him, your disciples should be fasting and praying and not hanging out with tax collectors. Jesus said, The healthy don’t need a doctor, but those who are sick.

Those religious leaders were so steeped in their tradition that they missed the whole purpose of God. Did you know that Jesus was a friend of sinners? Mans tradition thought the complete opposite.

So he gave them the example of the wineskins to deliver a point. He basically told them you are dry and your wineskins are old. You are disqualified for the new wine. In the New Testament wine is symbolic of Joy and the presence of God.

My wife Laura and I went into a church to minister one time and the pastor bought every one a pin that said “But we have always don things this way”. Writ under neeth the pin it said “Not”!

That pastor was declaring we are not getting stuck in old dead traditions that make the word of God of no effect. We are setting our selves up to move with the Holy Spirit. He always desires to do a new thing something fresh.

To day get rid of you’re old way of thinking and acting and make room for the new wine. Stay open to change! The flexible is not easily broken.
