The Blood Covenant

The Blood Covenant

By Wayne McDonald

Hebrews 13:20 Now may the God of peace [who is the author and giver of peace], who brought again from among the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood [that sealed, ratified] the everlasting agreement (covenant, testament).

Here is the definition of a covenant. A solemn agreement between two parties of equal or unequal authority. A binding oath, a pack, treaty or contract. In our western culture the average person has no idea what a blood covenant is all about. Most of us in America did not grow up making incisions in our flesh to the point of blood flowing and then enter into a contract. In the east the blood covenant still takes place to this day.

As my wife Laura and I travel we have met many people from Africa who grow up cutting the covenant. You can see scares in their face or on other parts of their body. These serve as a reminder of the covenant that they cut. When you enter into a blood covenant with someone it’s not to be taken lightly.

In some parts of the world if you break the covenant they will hunt you down and kill you. When you enter a blood covenant the process of exchange takes place. Everything you have belongs to that person or party and everything they have belongs to you. More than two thousand years ago God Almighty cut a blood covenant with you and me through the blood of His son Jesus.

Everything God has now belongs to you and everything you have now belongs to Him. You are sealed through the blood of the everlasting covenant. Today make a decision to live covenant minded! Nothing can separate you from the Love of God that is in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:35.
