The Power of Agreement
The power of Agreement
Laura McDonald

Matthew 18:18-19 Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. (19) Again (or assuredly) I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.

There are times Wayne thinks we should do something and I don’t (and vice a versa). We used to get caught in the trap of butting heads and trying to convince each other why they should see it our way. This never accomplished anything except wasting our time and ruffling our feathers.

Early on we realized when we don’t agree on something we need to stop focussing on it. Instead we need to focus on what we do agree on. We have enough things in our ministry that we do agree on that we could be spending our time on.

Once we learned to redirect our focus from what we did not agree on and direct it to what we did agree on things began to take off. The lowest form of agreement is better than the highest form of disagreement. Let me explain what I mean by that:

If I feel something is God but Wayne is not in agreement it would be out of order for me to say, “Well too bad I am going to do it anyway.” When I do that I have broken the agreement we have with each other and I have stopped God’s power from flowing.

If I really did hear from God, instead of breaking our agreement it would be better for me to say to Wayne, “I believe I heard from God, but if you don’t agree then let’s agree that we disagree. You pray about it and we won’t do it unless we can agree on it.” When I do that we are still operating in agreement.

It may be the lowest form of agreement because we are agreeing we disagree but it is still agreement. And because we are in agreement if God did speak to me He will confirm it to Wayne (and it works the same way if he feels to do something and I am not in agreement).
