This is Only a Test
This is Only a Test

By Laura McDonald

James 1: 2-4 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of our faith produces patience (endurance, perseverance). But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect (mature) and complete lacking nothing.

You can’t appreciate a trial or a test unless you know what the purpose is. In school I never really liked tests. I had to study and be prepared, but once I got the graded test back it let me know where I was at (where my strengths and weaknesses were).

Sometimes my grade was good and I realized I knew more than I thought I did. Other times my grade was awful, which made me realize I did not know as much as I thought. What about the Driver’s test. How many of you remember your driver’s test? How many of you were nervous? Why? Because we did not want to fail, we wanted to be able to drive.

But the truth is if we did fail it was because we were not ready. We needed to practice more to be safe on the road. See the test let us know where we were at. But once we passed even if we were not yet comfortable driving we knew we could do it because we passed the test.

We now had confidence in that area and other people had confidence in us too. Every test we pass gives us confidence in that area, and every test we fail will make us work on that area until we get it. Remember this is only a test.
